Yesterday’s Nintendo Direct has come and gone. Personally, I am not really sure how I feel about it. There are some games that I am excited for, and some that I am not. In no particular order, here are the games that were announced any my opinion of them.

Super Mario Maker 2

  • Release date: June 2019
  • Opinion: I was fairly surprised to see this game, despite the rumors. Its cool enough, I guess but the experience that I’ve had with the online community from the first game has kind of left a sour taste in my mouth. You don’t really find anything online accept “Impossibly Hard”, and “Auto Scrolling” levels. If they include a World building so I can group stages together, it may change my mind.
  • Verdict: Pretty low interest level. Most likely will not get.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Remake

  • Release Date: 2019
  • Opinion: Another game right out of left field. While I thought it was possible that they would eventually remake the game, I felt for sure it would be on the 3ds, not the Switch. I am pleasantly surprised. I have some questions about this game before I get too excited however
    • Link’s Awakening is a short game (as far as Zelda games generally go) the map is small, the dungeons are tiny. Are they adding anything to this game, or is it a pretty 1:1?
    • What are they planning on charging for this game? Anything over $40 for a 1:1 HD remake and I may need to rethink my position on it.
  • Verdict: Who am I kidding, I’ll get this anyway

Astral Chain

  • Release Date: 30 August, 2019
  • Opinion: The very first thing that went though my mind when I saw the cops summon the robot fighters was “Those are Stands, and this is Jojo’s” The consept did not fade from me as the rest of the trailer played out. All in all this game does look like it would be fun to play, and as an IP of Platinum Games I cant call my self surprised. I’ll need to gather more information about this in the future.
  • Verdict: While the game does look interesting, I’ll have enough to play by the time this comes out. I think I’ll have to pass on it.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

  • Release Date: 26 July, 2019
  • Opinion: Wow this game looks pretty, but aside from that the concept of this game is both intriguing and confusing. So you are a teacher in this school that students from three nations come to. Within this school there are three houses that the students are all in. (That explains the name) You can teach your students, and give them skills and special attacks, and modify their stats. So far, I’m on board. Just please please please, if they include romancing please only have it between the students. Dont let the MC become involved with their students… :/ Side note: I don’t care what anyone says, I’m calling this game Fire Emblem: Hogwarts.
  • Verdict: Fairly Interested, I will most likely pick this game up

Boxboy+Boxgirl

  • Release Date: 26 April, 2019
  • Opinion: Mildly distracting puzzle platformer.
  • Verdict: I played a demo of Boxboy a while back, wasn’t my cup of tea. Pass.

Tetris 99

  • Release Date: All ready out
  • Opinion: Multiplayer Tetris against 98 other people? Sign me up
  • Verdict: All ready downloaded and played quite a few rounds. Its really fun.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

  • Release Date: 2019
  • Opinion: Not-Castlevania looks pretty fun.
  • Verdict: I backed this game through crowd funding. I think I get a copy of the game when it releases.

Mortal Kombat 11

  • Release Date: 23 April, 2019
  • Opinion: Mortal Kombat in all of its bloody glory.
  • Verdict: This series is starting to get a little tired for my tastes, and I don’t really see what the series has to offer on the switch. If I do get it, I’ll get it for PS4.

Yoshi’s Crafted World

  • Release Date: 29 March, 2019
  • Opinion: It looks like it would be fun, and the aesthetic is certainly… unique. I’ve never been into the Yoshi Series however so this holds little interest for me.
  • Verdict: Pass

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

  • Verdict: Pass

Super Smash Bros Ultimate ver. 3.0

  • Release Date: ???
  • Opinion: What is the point of having an announcement if all you are going to tell us is that you are not going to tell us when its coming? Joker coming some time in April, i guess.
  • Verdict:

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice

  • Release Date: 2019
  • Opinion: I’ve heard a lot of people talking about the game back when it released on the PS4. I think it won some awards?
  • Verdict: If I wanted to play this, I would have gotten it on the PS4. Hard Pass.

Daemon X Machina

  • Release Date: 2019
  • Opinion: When they showed this game at E3 last year it looked really good. After seeing it again in the direct I am not so sure.
  • Verdict: Probably going to pass.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order

  • Release Date: Summer 2019
  • Opinion: I have liked Ultimate Alliance games in the past, and this one looks promising, and I have been starving for a Gauntlet-esqe game for a long time.
  • Verdict: Will it have couch co-op? If not, pass.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition

  • Release Date: 12 July, 2019
  • Opinion: I have been waiting for this game for a long time. I can not tell you how excited I was to finally get a release date for it.
  • Verdict: You better believe I am going to get this game.

Dragon Quest Builders 2

  • Release Date: 2019
  • Opinion: While this is an entertaining minecraft-ish game, I played the first one and it did not live up to expectations. I don’t have very high hopes for this one.
  • Verdict: Pass

Oninaki

  • Release Date: 2019
  • Opinion: There seems to be more to this game that I had originally thought. At first it looks like your average run of the mill JRPG, but the unique plot a has caught my attention.
  • Verdict: I’ll watch this game closely if more information becomes available I may pick it up.

Starlink: Battle for Atlas; New Star Fox Missions

  • Release Date:
  • Opinion: Don’t care.
  • Verdict: Pass

Disney Tsum Tsum Festival:

  • Pass

Rune Factory 4 Special

  • Pass

Rune Factory 5

  • Pass

Deltarune

  • Release Date: 28 Feb, 2019
  • Opinion: Isn’t this game vaguely connected to Undertale?
  • Verdict: Pass

Final Fantasy VII:

  • Release Date: 20 Mar, 2019
  • Opinion: You know it, you love it.
  • Verdict: Gonna pass on this. I all ready own the game on PS1, PS3, PS4, and Steam. I have many ways of playing it, I don’t need another.

Final Fantasy IX

  • Release Date: It’s out now
  • Opinion: One of my least favorite Final Fantasies. Much like VII, I have it on PS1, PS3, and PS4.
  • Verdict: They want how much for it!? $20!??? Hahahhahahahahahhahaha Pass. For $5 I may have considered it.

Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon Every Buddy

  • Release Date: 20 March, 2019
  • Opinion: Eh, the Mystery Dungeon games are not really my bag, man.
  • Verdict: Pass

Dead by Daylight

  • Release Date: Fall 2019
  • Opinion: If I wanted to play this, I would have bought it on the PS4 back in 2016
  • Verdict: Pass

Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered:

  • Release Date: 21 May 2019
  • Opinion: I played it back when it released on the PS, Dont really need a need to get it again.
  • Verdict: Pass

Unravel Two

  • Release Date: 22 March, 2019
  • Opinion: It looks like it could be fun, but I have so much on my plate, I cant really see my self getting this.
  • Verdict: Pass

Grid Autosport

  • Release Date: Summer 2019
  • Opinion: A realistic racing game from 2014? On my Switch? Its more likely than you think.
  • Verdict: Hard Pass.
